RA-1 Regional Technical Conference (RECO)
Joint African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology
(AMCOMET) Technical Segment
18-20 February, 2019
Egyptian Meteorological Authority
As a single authoritative voice and source on weather, climate and hydrological services and warnings, the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) must provide scientifically sound weather climate and hydrological information and be impartial when advising their governments. It is therefore imperative to support the strengthening of the capacities of NMHSs in a sustainable manner. Therefore, the African Union endorsed Integrated Strategy on Weather and Climate Services, and its complementary Implementation Plan, developed under the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET) umbrella, with a roadmap on concrete ways to enhance the production and delivery of services needed to respond to climate change and build the resilience of communities and economies in Africa to cope with the hydrometeorological extremes.
A joint RA-1 Regional Technical Conference (RECO) and AMCOMET Technical Segment with the overarching theme on Effective Leadership as a sustainable pathway for NMHSs in Africa, is jointly organised by AMCOMET, the African Union Commission (AUC) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO). One of the key objectives is to develop actionable policy recommendations for Ministers consideration and endorsement at the High Level Segment of AMCOMET.
The Conference is an opportunity for Permanent Representatives of Member countries in WMO Regional Association-1 to discuss persistent challenges and emerging issues and agree on the way forward to further developing the capabilities of NMHSs, in partnership with the regional and global hydrometeorological community.
